It’s finally here!

happy-dogAfter 9 months of arduous work, researching, writing, video shooting, editing, re-writing, re-editing and a couple of complete overhauls, we have finally completed the ScaptivationTM project.

This process will push the ball forward in our effort to rid the world of the scourge of arm pain.

We’ve known for a long time that the
muscles on the front of your shoulders were more powerful than your rotator cuff and the muscles surrounding your shoulder blade.

For years we tried to strengthen the scapular musculature with exercises like bands, rows, and reverse throws.

These exercises were good, but not great because they didn’t work the muscles in the same way they’re used in a throw or a pitch.

You see muscles can produce tension or force in 3 basic ways. When the muscle is getting sholisascaprter that is called a concentric contraction. When the associated joints don’t move at all, that’s and isometric contraction, and when the muscle is lengthening as it creates tension, it’s called eccentric.

The trouble with traditional scapular strengthening exercises is that they
strengthen the muscles concentrically and in a baseball throw, most of the deceleration muscles operate eccentrically.

So to be truly functional and specific to the throwing movement, those muscles should be worked eccentrically. Sounds easy, but it’s actually pretty complicated.

You see, not only do the muscles need to work eccentrically, but they also need to be able to do so at high speed, while the shoulder is in distraction at the end of the motion.

It’s really not a pure strength problem as much as it is a motor control problem (co-contraction, coordination, and timing).
